My four (4) years at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) has been an excellent and extremely rewarding experience that I would cherish for a lifetime. I am Carmencita Duberry, a regional student from Montserrat and graduate of both the Certificate and Diploma in Food Technology.  Having achieved the status of top student at both levels I enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (BSc.) Food Science and Technology as well. Starting at the lowest level equipped me to advance and eventually complete the Bachelor of Science Level, for which I give thanks to the Almighty Father.

 

The practical, hands-on approach taken by numerous lecturers ensured a smooth transfer and delivery of knowledge. This provided students, like myself, with first-hand experience in product development, agro-processing and quality assurance just to name a few. It also encouraged entrepreneurship, thus, allowing the students to broaden their horizons as it relates to the field of work they wish to engage in.  

 

The faculty members were also very courteous and helpful. They were always willing to assist with any queries and ensure that all student matters are resolved in a timely manner.  This is a testimony that the Food Science Technology Unit at The University of Trinidad and Tobago is very focused on teaching their students and about food security in Trinidad and the wider region. The department also greatly assisted me as a student in making the transition from classroom to field work.

 

Therefore, whether my ambition was to be a part of a company and make a difference or to become an entrepreneur in the food industry, this in-depth programme was an excellent starting point for me. Completing this Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science and Technology was a choice I will always be thankful I made.
