My name is Carlene Jordan-Wright and I am indeed happy to be a part of the UTT experience.

Being an employee with the Division of Agriculture, Tobago, I saw the need for development in Agriculture, Food Science and Technology in Tobago, so I applied to The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and enrolled in the Diploma in Food Technology programme in 2015.  

My experience was a remarkable and successful one!  I had the opportunity to study with students of different age groups, both national and international, received both theory and practical training in the subject areas as well as hands-on experience on field visits and in labs.  For the internship programme, I worked with one of the biggest and best caterers in Tobago, this allowed me to practice a wide range of discipline-based knowledge and personal skills such as ensuring food safety to the consumer and ensuring that food was prepared and served in a safe and timely manner.

The lecturers were very knowledgeable in their fields and worked along with students to ensure a full understanding of the subject area.  Mrs. Raeesah Sahibdeen, Mrs. Dimple Singh-Ackbarali and Mr. Richard Kelly stood out the most for me and encouraged me to reach the unreachable. The teamwork and critical thinking skills developed in this programme will surely benefit me in the workplace!

There is a need for Quality Assurance Officers and Food Scientists, just to name a few, in Trinidad and Tobago.  To fulfill this need, I recommend the Diploma in Food Technology to persons desirous of becoming a part of the team who ensures Food Safety and Security both locally and regionally.
