Russell Guides T&T's Women U-17 Football Team to CONCACAF Final Round

UTT Patriots Women's Football Coach, Ayana Russell guided the Trinidad and Tobago Women Under-17 National Football team, to the Final Round of the CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship Qualifiers. The team also included UTT athletes Kanika Rodriguez (#15), Mikaela Yearwood (#17), Kaitlyn Darwent (#2) and Cherina Steele (#6).

The team's qualification was announced on February 1, 2025 following participation in the First Round qualifiers that took place at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva between January 27-31, 2025.

Following the group play, Trinidad and Tobago  secured two (2) wins and one (1) loss, defeating the US Virgin Islands (5-0) and Belize (2-0), while falling short to Honduras (0-1) in their final game of the tournament. Nicaragua and Costa Rica sealed their berths as winners of Groups E and F, while Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago advanced as the two (2) best second-place teams.

According to a CONCACAF press release, the Final Round will take place between March 31 and April 6, 2025. On February 24, 2025 at the competition's official draw, the participating teams will be split into three (3) groups of four (4) each. The three (3) group winners and the best second-place finisher (four teams in total) will qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2025.
