The University of Trinidad and Tobago’s (UTT) Academy for the Performing Arts (APA) Community is pleased to announce that the 2026 Medal of Excellence has been awarded to Nathan Joseph.

Joseph recently completed UTT’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Media Arts with specialisation in Game Art, and was nominated by Johnathan Scoon, Instructor II, APA, based on his performance.

The Medal of Excellence is awarded on an annual basis to the APA student who best exemplifies the ideals of creativity, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence in all areas of endeavour – and who shows the greatest potential for success in their chosen creative field.

The award consists of a medal designed by renowned designer Gillian Bishop, a certificate of achievement, and a letter of commendation from the Academy for the Performing Arts. These will be formally presented to the awardee at the 2026 Medal of Excellence Award Showcase, to be held at UTT Campus at NAPA on October 30^th, 2026.

Early 2026, APA faculty members were invited to nominate one student in their final year of study with a cumulative grade point Average at 3.00 or above. Nominees were guided to compile a dossier consisting of a statement of purpose, testimonials and recommendations, with examples of work. These dossiers were reviewed by an external panel of industry professionals and nominees were then interviewed by the panel.

Mr Joseph was selected as the recipient for this award as he is an exemplary student who consistently demonstrates an infectiously positive attitude alongside strong and reliable leadership qualities. He approaches his work with a sense of enthusiasm that not only motivates himself but also uplifts those around him. Whether working independently or as part of a team, Mr Joseph brings a steady, encouraging presence that helps foster a productive and collaborative environment. His ability to remain optimistic and focused, even when faced with challenges, is a defining aspect of his character. He is highly dedicated to his craft and exhibits a commendable work ethic in everything he undertakes.

He has carved out a niche for himself as a technical animator, a role that perfectly aligns with both his interests and strengths. He combines his passion for creating engaging and enjoyable games with a natural inclination for problem-solving. His attention to detail and commitment to quality contribute significantly to the overall user experience, making his work both practical and impactful.

UTT congratulates Nathan Joseph on joining the rank of the Medal of Excellence award winners who came before him, and also extends congratulations to the other nominees Kiran Manwah, Obasi Charles,

Shania George, Stanae Malchan and Jose Henriquez whose achievements were chosen for special mention by the adjudicating panel.
