As part of her Master of Philosophy in Marine Sciences research at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), postgraduate student Aimee Boisselle recently led a field expedition along the Nariva River to collect bioacoustic data on the area's elusive manatees.

Joining her on the expedition were wildlife expert Zak Ali, bioacoustics consultant Syam Nath, and final-year Bachelor of Science in Coastal and Ocean Management student Arya Maharaj. The team spent the afternoon kayaking along the river, deploying acoustic monitoring instruments designed to detect manatee sounds and other signs of their presence.

This fieldwork contributes to a deeper understanding of manatee activity and supports ongoing efforts to conserve one of Trinidad and Tobago's most remarkable aquatic mammals.
