Janelle Yearwood (left) and Cherise Jack (right)  of The University of Trinidad and Tobago's (UTT), Institute of Criminology and Public Safety (ICPS) have been awarded scholarships to study abroad at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), through the Canada-CARICOM funded 'Emerging Leaders in the Americas Programme (ELAP).

This programme provides students and researchers from the Americas and the Caribbean with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

ELAP scholarships are facilitated through institutional collaborations and student exchange agreements between Canadian and Central, North and South American or Caribbean institutions. These agreements are created between colleges, technical or vocational institutions and universities.

The awarded students now have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience through this programme, which continues to encourage inter-university mobility and collaborations toward fostering understanding among peoples and development across nations.
