Gianluc Mikai Robinson, a third-year Bachelor of Applied Science student in UTT’s Coast and Ocean Sciences programme, has been awarded the prestigious Sullivan Award from the American Fisheries Society to participate in its 148th Annual Meeting carded for August 19th to 20th , 2018 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Gianluc is set to present the findings of his study at this year’s Conference, under the theme “Communicating the Science of Fisheries Conservation to Diverse Audiences”. In his investigation into the effects of heavy fishing pressure on population dynamics, Gianluc’s research has revealed that thirty-seven (37) years of fishing pressure has significantly reduced the size at maturity and reproductive output of the lane snapper (Lutjanus synagris – known locally as "walliacke").
