The Russell Sage Foundation (RSF) is the principal American foundation devoted exclusively to research in the social sciences. The foundation serves as a research center for academics and journalists, a funding source for studies by scholars at other academic and research institutions, and an active member of the US social science community. The foundation also publishes books and a journal that derive from the work of its grantees and visiting scholars.
The RSF funds research projects in four principal programs - Behavioral Economics; the Future of Work; Race, Ethnicity and Immigration; and Social Inequality and in a number of special initiatives.
The RSF is currently inviting applications for its Research Grant Programme. All research grant applications must be preceded by a letter of inquiry (LOI). RSF only considers proposals that are invited following review of an initial letter of inquiry. RSF rarely considers projects for which the investigators have not already fully-developed the research design, the sample framework, access to data, etc. Investigators are encouraged to submit an LOI after they have developed and pre-tested survey instruments, completed preliminary data analyses if the data are publicly-available or conducted some preliminary interviews for qualitative studies.
Applications should limit budget requests to a maximum of $175,000.00 (including overhead) over no more than a two-year period.
Important Timeline:
1) Letter of Inquiry - May 23, 2019
2) Invited Proposal Deadline - August 15, 2019
3) Funding Decision - November, 2019
