The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) welcomed a contingent of eighteen (18) students and three (3) members of faculty on a Study Tour from the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Germany, during the period 5th-15th May, 2016. The 10-day study-tour included a unique blend of academic learning, structured visits to UTT Chaguaramas, Camden, Pt. Lisas and Tamana Campuses as well as a tailored cultural programme.
The Osnabrück undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in varied Bachelor of Engineering programmes were particularly interested in interacting with UTT's Civil Engineering programmes representatives. The study-tour culminated with a presentation by Dr. Amarnath Chinchamee, Assistant Professor, Project Management and Civil Infrastructure Systems Group and other members of his team at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts.
As most of the students were in fact aspiring civil engineers, one of the highlights of the was their site visit to the UTT Tamana InTech Park, under the direction of Mr. Carlos Wright, Vice President, Facilities and Operations Management and Dr. Allison Williams, Senior Engineer.
This study-tour is a precursor to further collaborative activities envisioned between both institutions. Exploratory discussions between UTT's Civil Engineering Department, the International Office and Grant Funding Unit and Osnabrück faculty to determine possible linkages, partnerships and opportunities for short-term student exchanges are ongoing.
The support and contributions by the Maritime Studies, Civil Engineering, Aviation and Solar House Offices, Campus Management, Security Services and support staff have all culminated in a successful and productive visit by the group, which will augur well for UTT's first institutional engagement in Germany.
