The overarching objective of this call for papers is to stimulate original analytical pieces using internationally comparable firm-level data focused on the Caribbean. Compete Caribbean welcomes proposals from diverse academic backgrounds and disciplines where the researchers use the PROTEqIN and LACEs surveys as the main source of data for the study.
Compete Caribbean will support high quality research proposals that aim at examining the causal effect of firm and market characteristics, public policies, and/or market failures on resource allocation, use of technology, productivity and innovation in Caribbean countries. The subject matters of interest include, but are not limited to:
1) Access to finance and its effect on productivity and innovation within firms
2) Labour markets and productivity at the firm level
3) Business climate and its impact on productivity
6) The impact of government support programmes such as export promotion, foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction, business development services and similar, on firm productivity
7) The use of technology and its effect on firm productivity
8) Others (i.e. gender and productivity and their relationship to firm productivity)
Studies that incorporate gender and environmental variables and issues into the analysis of firm productivity, as well as those with a cross-national and/or cross-regional perspective are encouraged.
Grants: Selected applicants will receive a research grant of US$5,000. In addition, finalists will be invited to publish their papers in an edited volume that will be published in 2016.
