The University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT) is pleased to announce its Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has been awarded the Student Chapter Excellence Award for the second consecutive year. This prestigious award is given to only one-fifth of global Student Chapters, and recognises the group's concerted effort to fulfil its mission to its membership, and the country.

The team of Evangeline Pardasie, President; Adrian Thomas, Vice President; Lachelle Hamilton, Secretary; Dara David, Treasurer and Maisha Mendoza, Public Relations Officer, embarked on a number of initiatives during the past twelve months, for both technical and professional advancement. This included a two-day workshop, 'Logging While Drilling' which was hosted in collaboration with EduCave, an Oil & Gas industry training organisation, a virtual competition showcasing participants' knowledge on energy production, and consumption and a technical talk alongside the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Student Chapter at the University of the West Indies (UWI) on 'Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage'. Both parties also worked together with SPETT on a series of talks titled 'Interview Wednesdays - Chatting with Pioneers from the Petroleum Industry'.

The group also hosted a career-fair with El Dorado Offshore (EDO), and organised a professional talk titled “Developing and Maintaining the Right Mindset” hosted by Emile Grant - Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSE&C) Advisor at bpTT. In the sphere of community development, the Student Chapter coordinated a food drive to assist UTT students impacted by Covid-19, and then partnered with Ramps Logistics' Food Bank Initiative to provide over 2000 families with essential grocery items.

The University is immensely proud of its Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and congratulates them on yet another resounding success. Keep flying the UTT flag high!
