CAPTION: Anthony Williams receives the Best Overall Student award from his mentor, Dr. Marlon Melville, Assistant Professor, Academy of Sports, UTT.
The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) highlights Anthony Williams, who openly shares his trials and triumphs in his quest for success.
"Whether good or bad, there is always something to appreciate in every person, in every situation and in every interaction." These are the words of Anthony Williams, which he admits also form part of his daily credo.
A second-year student of UTT’s Academy of Sports at UTT Corinth Campus, Anthony is pursuing the Bachelor in Sport Studies with a double specialisation in Sport Pedagogy and Exercise Science - a decision he made after successfully completing the Certificate in Sport Studies in 2017.
Anthony displayed a sense of wisdom and maturity beyond his nineteen (19) years of age and in speaking with him, there is the sense that he is highly focused and motivated. From the outset, Anthony clearly articulated his aspirations to become a Sport Psychologist, a profession he believes is critical to advancing the local sport industry to international status. It is clear that he is passionate about his choice of study, as he explains excitedly about merging scientific principles and methodology with psychology and its associated benefits to the discipline of Sport.
Thus far, his journey to success has been filled with sacrifice and determination. Being a full-time student, to sustain his livelihood, Anthony works at a fast-food franchise and does odd jobs on evenings and weekends. Balancing work and school can be challenging at times, as his typical day starts at 5:00 in the morning and ends at midnight, after he has completed his shift at work. However, this only provides fuel for his motivation to succeed.
It was no surprise to many that Anthony was awarded ‘Best Overall Student’ with sterling commendations from both his peers and instructors, at the UTT Sports Award and Recognition Ceremony. This award is bestowed on the student who displays the most potential and perseveres despite situational challenges.
Anthony credits UTT’s instructors and the support staff, who have been very instrumental in assisting him to navigate through this phase of his life. He further expounded on UTT’s student-centric approach and unrelenting commitment to ensuring the holistic development of each student. With the assistance of his instructors, Anthony is submitting an application for an international short-term scholarship. Once successful, he will complete a semester or a full year of related studies at a Canadian university.
By his dedication and commitment to his vocation, Anthony has shown a resilient spirit which serves as an inspiration to fellow students. The University of Trinidad and Tobago applauds Anthony Williams for displaying the true qualities of a UTT student and wishes him all the best in his pursuit of excellence.
