Participants of the NFPA Fire Investigation 921 – Electrical Training
The University of Trinidad and Tobago’s (UTT) Outreach and Industry Relations Unit recently conducted a customised training course on NFPA Fire Investigation 921 – Electrical for the Ministry of Public Utilities, Electrical Inspectorate. The course, held at UTT Chaguanas Campus from May 1st to 4th, 2023, aimed to familiarise participants with the requirements of NFPA 921, with a specific focus on the electrical scope as it relates to the Government Electrical Inspectorate.
Senior members of the Electrical Inspectorate participated in the training, which employed a combination of theoretical instruction, video presentations, case study discussions, and presentation of findings. The goal was to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to utilise the techniques outlined in NFPA 921 effectively. Specifically, participants were trained to complete internal checklists and report templates for fire investigations, aligning their practices with the standards set by NFPA.
By utilising a variety of teaching methods, UTT Outreach and Industry Relations Unit ensured an engaging and interactive learning experience. The course evaluation indicated that the training had a positive impact on participants and helped them synthesise linkages between course content and their work practices. By aligning their investigations with the NFPA 921 guidelines, participants gained a deeper understanding of best practices and industry standards.
