Geremias Mai Marcano is a student at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) destined for musical greatness.

Marcano, a Venezuelan national, joined Trinidad and Tobago’s National Philharmonic Orchestra (NPO) as its only oboist, and was subsequently granted a scholarship from UTT, to study the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music at the University’s Academy for the Performing Arts (APA).

In 2019, at the age of eighteen, while completing his academic pursuits, he became a tutor at both the Birdsong Academy and the Heroes Foundation, and has performed with the Desperadoes Steel Orchestra and at the Big Five Steelband Show.

In late 2021, he auditioned for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, UK and was not only accepted, but also granted a scholarship to read for his Master's Degree at the institution.  Despite this endorsement from the Guildhall, UK Immigration requires that he raise at least $120,000TTD in order to be granted a student visa. Failure to do this will result in loss of this scholarship and rare opportunity.

To offset these costs, a fundraising concert, "My Musical Journey" will be hosted this weekend, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June, at UTT Campus at NAPA. Performances begin at 6:00p.m. and 5:00p.m. respectively. Geremias will be accompanied by a number of special guests including Dr Edward Cumberbatch, tenor, and Dr Dirk Govia, baritone, both members of UTT faculty; Simon Brown, violinist and concertmaster, and Shurvone Brathwaite, clarinetist, both of NPO. Admission is $200, for bookings, please call 338-6024.

The public is encouraged to come out and support Geremias as he strives to continue his journey of academic and musical excellence.
