UTT will be conducting periodically research surveys from postgraduate students. People are invited to participate in responding to these surveys. There are no right or wrong answers to the questions. Participants will be entered into a draw for several prizes below. Some single surveys, because of their length, may entitle respondents to multiple chances in the draw. An individual may participate in multiple surveys but never more than once in the same survey. The expected time for completion of a survey and the number of chances awarded for completing it are listed next to the link for each survey. At the end of the survey, participants will click on a link which will send them to a separate site, where they may enter brief contact information. This information is necessary to contact winners. Please note that this information is collected separately from the answers given in the survey so that the survey responses cannot be tied to a particular individual. This survey is part of a study on Urban Ecosystems. The information collected will be used to construct an index of Ecosystem Satisfaction. The index is intended to be applied in analyzing how urbanization impacts on quality of life to ultimately gain a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges of the urbanization process, which is critical as we seek to realize sustainable development in our twin island country. We are interested in the perceptions of individuals in order to gain an understanding of how the Energy Sector has affected the lives of the people of Trinidad & Tobago. This survey is part of a capital project which the Government of Trinidad and Tobago may be contemplating. Our oil reserves are expected to last only another 10 to 15 years at current levels of production. The Government must find other energy sources. In Parrylands and Guapo near to the Pitch lake, there are tar sand fields. Tar Sands are a mixture of oil, sand and minerals. It looks like a black rock when it is mined. To get anything useable, we will need to mine the sands, get the rock which contains bitumen, and then convert the bitumen to crude oil. The benefits could be additional revenue for the Government and employment for locals. The costs, however, are both financial and environmental.
