Research Ethics Committee (REC)

The Research Ethics Committee (REC) at The University of Trinidad and Tobago ensures that all university affiliated research upholds the highest ethical standards.

Our primary role is to safeguard the dignity, rights, safety and well being of all research participants, both human and animal.
The REC is responsible for:

  • Reviewing and approving all research proposals involving human or animal participants.
  • Providing ethical guidance and support to UTT researchers and students.
  • Promoting awareness and training in research ethics across the university.
  • Ensuring compliance with national and international ethical guidelines.

We oversee research conducted by faculty, staff and students, as well as collaborative projects with external partners. The committee operates under the Office of Research, Impact & Postgraduate Studies (RIPS) and is composed of multidisciplinary experts dedicated to fostering responsible and ethically sound research at UTT.
