THE UNIVERSITY OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO (UTT) has unified its teams that participate in various sporting disciplines under one banner - the UTT PATRIOTS.
A patriot is defined as "a person who vigourously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors". As the National University of Trinidad and Tobago, UTT takes pride in its role in innovation, research, the dissemination of knowledge and the overall advancement of our society. To this end, the UTT PATRIOTS are set to dominate the sporting arena locally, regionally and internationally.
The Sun
Throughout history the sun has been a symbol of power, growth, vitality and passion in many cultures and religions.
The sun is revered because of its ability to create and sustain life. Many cultures, including the First Peoples of Trinidad and Tobago, include sun symbols in stories documented through art and passed down through the generations.
As the sun is believed to be a representation of the higher self, this symbol serves as the core inspiration of a UTT PATRIOT - striving to be the best version of oneself both on and off the field.

The Steelpan
Native to Trinidad and Tobago, the steelpan holds the title of the only original musical instrument invented in the 20th century. Since then, its influence has transcended borders, with steel orchestras being established all over the world.
From classical orchestras to hip-hop studios, the unique, versatile sound of the steelpan can be heard in several genres of music and stands as a testament to the ingenuity of our people.
In similar fashion, members of the UTT PATRIOTS seek to gain recognition in their chosen fields, not only for themselves, but for the University and the wider national community.

The Marked Face
Many cultures throughout the world use facial markings to distinguish themselves from others, whether to signify royalty or to incite fear and aggression towards enemies. Some cultures (such as the First Peoples of Trinidad and Tobago) use these markings as a source of protection or to enhance one’s connection to nature.
The face at the centre of the emblem for the UTT PATRIOTS is adorned in markings to signify the innate warrior spirit, discipline and determination of each team member towards achieving their goals.
The National Colors
Granted UTT is the National University of Trinidad and Tobago and its core brand employs the use of the national colours of Trinidad and Tobago, it is fitting that the UTT PATRIOTS use a similar colour palette.
