An afternoon of academic achievements: MME celebrates its highest performing students

The Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship (MME) Unit hosted a Prize Award Ceremony on Wednesday 26 October 2022 at  UTT Chaguanas Campus to celebrate its highest achieving students across all five programmes -  Certificate in Applied Engineering (CAE), National Engineering Technician Diploma (NETD), Bachelor of Applied Science in Manufacturing and Design Engineering (BASc MDE), Master of Science in Innovation, Manufacturing Management and Entrepreneurship (MSc IMME), and Master of Science in Innovative Design and Entrepreneurship (MSc IDE).

In recognition of the hard work and sacrifice made by these students during their course of study, the MME Unit decided to host a special ceremony in their honour. There were three categories of prizes:

  • Student awards - awarded to students attaining the highest GPA of their programme and cohort, both full-time and part-time
  • Project awards - awarded to students or groups of students attaining the highest project mark of their programme and cohort, both full-time and part-time
  • IET Manufacturing Engineering Student Prize 2022 - a special prize awarded by The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) for best performing students in the B.A.Sc. MDE programmes. Two of MME's programmes are accredited by the IET (B.A.Sc. MDE; MSc IDE)

The student awardees were as follows:

Full Time/Part Time

  • CAE Jody Carter and Kerron Collins
  • NETD Alando Angatiah and Tracey Mahase
  • B.A.Sc. MDE Jovann Persad and Mackayla Toppie
  • M.Sc. IMME Amrita Mahabir
  • M.Sc. IDE Kamau Romano

The following students received the Project Awards:

Full Time/ Part Time

  • NETD Tavan Hobson, Jameel Hosein, Relando Emmanuel, Jyasi Cozier, Ocean Mitchell Rajesh Kungebeharry, Ravi Kungebeharry, Mikhail Arjoon and Justin Baksh
  • B.A.Sc. MDE Jovann Persad and Akeil Gomes
  • M.Sc. IMME Amrita Mahabir and Quynton Gooding (tie)
  • M.Sc. IDE Kamau Romano

Special mention to be made to Jovann Persad who won the IET Manufacturing Engineering Student Prize 2022. Not only did she win an award in each of the three categories, but she was also named valedictorian for her graduation ceremony!

The ceremony and awards would not have been possible without the very generous donations from graduates of our programmes. The graduate donors are all entrepreneurs with successful businesses:
