Name: Collin Piper
Job: Terminal Operations Manager at the Paria Fuels Trading Company Limited, Pointe-a-Pierre, Trinidad.
My career in the maritime industry commenced in 1978 when I entered the Engineering Cadetship program at a Maritime College in the United Kingdom followed by eight (8) years engineering at sea on petroleum tankers. In 1991 I joined the TRINTOC which later became the Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited which began my career in tanker terminal operations.
Excellent port operations and maintenance experience was gained through the years, however, that was limited to the specific port. As I progressed through the organization into a predominantly leadership and administrative roll, I recognized the need to expand my knowledge and skills base in the wider maritime industry to handle the challenging environment if I was to be a successful leader and innovator. The MSc in Operational Maritime Management at The University of Trinidad and Tobago provided be with excellent experience to answer my needs. The completion of the master’s degree over the age of fifty (50) of course brought a sense of personal accomplishment and with the industry experience. Keeping in contact with some of my lecturers supports as part of the chain of knowledge.
