At the Annual Conference and AGM of the Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE) held at the Jolly Beach Resort, Antigua, 20-21 November 2013, Dr Ruby S Alleyne, Vice-President, Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness was elected President for a period of two years. CANQATE was established in 2004 as a sub-network of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE). The aims and objectives of CANQATE are compatible with those of INQAAHE whose principal purpose is to "enable members to share information about the maintenance, evaluation, accreditation and improvement of higher education and to disseminate good practice in the field of Quality Assurance". Dr Alleyne served as Vice-President of CANQATE from 2005-2009. She is currently the Vice-President, Accreditation Activities of the Caribbean Accreditation Council for Engineering and Technology (CACET). CACET and UTT are both full members of CANQATE.

Dr Alleyne brings a wealth of experience in quality assurance and accreditation at the national and regional levels to the presidency of CANQATE and we extend best wishes to her for a successful term of office.
