The Institutional Effectiveness (IE) function of the Office of Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness(QA&IE) focuses on creating organisational intelligence, improving efficiency and catalysing sustained growth and development.

To fulfil this mandate the IE Unit:

• Develops a systematic institutional research agenda intended to provide reliable information to support planning, policy formation and decision-making
• Conducts research on specific areas of the university including: students, faculty and staff, facilities, revenue and expenditure, academic and support programmes, mission and purpose, government and regulatory requirement, and higher education trends
• Seeks to create strategic alliances to support data collection and analysis of the external environment.
• Disseminates research information using an innovative and technology-driven approach.
• Presents reliable current statistics and other information to establish a positive image that leverages the university's position in the tertiary education sector
• Facilitates a future-focused approach to strategic planning that uses knowledge to generate innovations and solutions with the aim of improving organisational performance and ensuring relevance, sustainability, and growth

UTT's Framework for Institutional Research
The approach adopted by QA&IE views UTT as an open system comprised of three central components - inputs, processes, and outputs. The components at all times impact and are impacted by the external environment. In this model the functions of Quality Management, Measurement and Research, and Planning are all interconnected.
