Academic Unit: CMOS- Marine Sciences Unit

Mr Deanesh Ramsewak is an Assistant Professor-in-Practice at the University for the past 10 years. He joined faculty at UTT's Marine Sciences Unit during its inaugural academic year in 2013. He has worked in the fields of education and research for the past 25 years.

Mr Ramsewak teaches digital mapping techniques using satellite imagery, drones and global positioning systems for 5 different programmes at UTT. His research focuses, not only primarily on marine mapping and monitoring, but also extends to land-use planning, forests and criminology applications.

He has worked on many Caribbean Sea initiatives supported by NASA, the European Space Agency and the International Oceanographic Commission, and has over 60 publications on record.

Mr Ramsewak is a member of numerous national and regional committees and was recently appointed as a member of the UN Ocean Decade - Digital Twins of the Ocean Steering Committee for a 3-year term. Mr. Ramsewak is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology, and maintains active memberships in 6 other professional affiliations.

He also volunteers for an international humanitarian organization based in the UK and is a Science Mentor for the Space Generation Advisory Council in Vienna, Austria.
