Vision 2030 encourages the support for new and emerging sectors, both through the continued growth and expansion of exporters.  The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (GoRTT) has identified and prioritised the establishment of new business clusters in seven (7) key national economic areas of which Creative Industry is included.

As the national University and a training institute in the field of fashion management and design, UTT is eager to support national development initiatives, and has partnered with FashionTT to achieve strategic development goals by implementing mechanisms to support the Fashion Sector as part of a wider economic transformation programme.

On January 17th 2022, MADE868 Fashion Production Facility opened its doors to the public. Ms Sandra Carr, Programme Leader of The Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design (CAFD) at UTT has spearheaded this project for the past 5 years. The Fashion Production Facility will service Trinidad and Tobago’s emerging fashion designers in the consistent and quality production of their collections in the first instance, and eventually, the wider Caribbean.   There is no comparable facility which caters to the small to medium production needs of our Fashion Industry, locally or regionally.

This Facility is comprised of the Fashion Production Facility and the Fab Lab. As a result, MADE868 is able to provide services and equipment for the cutting and sewing of garments, digital fabric printing, laser cutting and 3-D printing, CNC Milling services and more.  It is both an incubator for UTT’s Fashion, Engineering and Performing Arts Students and Entrepreneurs, and a for-profit manufacturing facility.

The newly refurbished Facility is located at UTT’s John S. Donaldson Port of Spain Campus, in the hub of the fashion district of the Woodbrook area and environs. The ultimate goal of MADE868 is to be a sustainable and efficiently operating Garment Production Facility.

Ms. Carr firmly believes in the potential of the venture, quoting, "Build it and they will come."
