The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) hosted the Carbon Zero Institute of Trinidad and Tobago (CZITT) AI Energy Hackathon at UTT Point Lisas Campus today, bringing together secondary school students to explore innovative solutions to energy-related challenges through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The event reflects the expanding partnership between UTT and CZITT following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) earlier this year. The agreement established a framework for collaboration in education, innovation and technological development, with a focus on initiatives that advance national progress.
The hackathon, organised by the Carbon Zero Institute of Trinidad and Tobago (CZITT), aims to transform students from passive consumers of electricity into active analysts and problem-solvers by leveraging AI tools, which are already familiar to them.
UTT's Acting President, Professor Rean Maharaj, who attended the event, underscored the significance of the partnership, noting that, "The Hackathon is an excellent example of what can be achieved when institutions work together to empower our youth and address national priorities."
Through initiatives such as the CZITT AI Energy Hackathon, UTT continues to support the development of future-ready learners equipped with the skills, knowledge and innovative mindset needed to contribute to a sustainable and technology-driven future.
