Nathene Logie's time in the Coastal and Ocean Management programme at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) provided a strong foundation that ignited her lasting dedication to marine conservation. The programme's unique strength lay in its balance of critical scientific theory with practical application.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, she developed valuable skills ranging from field sampling techniques and GIS mapping to effective presentation and teamwork. Learning directly from knowledgeable, active researchers tackling real-world issues offered Nathene an inspiring blueprint for her own career path.

She went on to serve as a Sea Turtle Coordinator at the St. Eustatius National Parks Foundation (STENAPA), Dutch Caribbean, where her responsibilities included beach patrols, nest excavations, and data collection. This opportunity arose through her UTT network, and the role drew heavily on the ecological knowledge, environmental expertise, and interpersonal skills she honed during the programme.

Nathene remains deeply grateful for the education she received and is confident that the programme equips students with a versatile and robust skill set applicable across many environmental fields. At the same time, she cautions prospective students that a career in marine conservation requires immense passion and perseverance, particularly within the Trinidad and Tobago context. Success often depends on creating opportunities and being strategic about gaining experience early on.
