APA Vocal Studio
The Academy's vocal studio, which currently consists of thirty-eight students from both the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Artist Diploma in Music Performance programmes offers instruction in a range of genres from Classical and Broadway to Gospel and Soca.
The aim of the studio is that its members acquire enhanced professional and artistic training as part of their course, profiting from training at various levels, from the intermediate singer to the experienced or trained professional. APA's highly qualified vocal faculty provides individual instruction designed to meet the vocal, professional, and artistic needs of each student. Studio events such as vocal recitals, special concerts, and musical productions are conducted each term to not only showcase the progress and talents of the students but also to provide experiences that simulate the professional environments to which they will be exposed upon graduation.
Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival
The Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival Association H.B.M. (TTMFA) was incorporated by an Act of Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (No. 15 of 1972) and is empowered "to promote and hold music festivals and to do all other such things as are incidental to the holding of such festivals; and to do all other things necessary for the encouragement of the appreciation of music."
The 32nd Biennial Festival was held from Feb 18th to March 18th 2018, and included a wide variety of "classes" or competition categories. The Festival included a series of regional finals (North, South, and Tobago) in each competition from which the winners come together to compete for the Championship Trophies. Special adjudicator awards were also given for overall excellence in the Festival.

First time participant Sade Weekes:
Because it was my first Music Festival, I didn't have any expectations - just anxiety about what it would be like. It was fulfilling that at the end of competing at that level we could end up winners!! The critique was well received and it pushed me to keep up that spirit of excellence. I was truly proud of my classmates that won in many other categories. It felt rewarding personally to be a part of such excellence and talent.
Former participant Jerrana Douglas, who won several trophies:
Music Festival this year was very fulfilling. I was able to showcase my enhanced skills as a singer, entering in classes that I had never entered before. More specifically, classes that I previously thought were beyond my capabilities.
I think in previous years I played it safe, performing in classes I thought I could excel in and where the music was simple to learn. The adjudication this year gave me feedback on my strengths and weaknesses, which was inspiring and encouraging.
