Daring Darren outruns the field

Moderate start and blistering finish

The Abilene Wildcat Classic provided some stiff competition for UTT’s fast track team on Saturday 13th May. One (1) 1st place, one (1) 2nd place and three (3) 3rd places, accentuated the day’s competition.

Darren Alfred a first year Sport Studies student again displayed fine form in the four hundred metres event. Coming from a moderate start he produced a blistering finish to beat the field, convincingly leaving Abilene’s Judah Taylor and Point-a-Pierre’s Theon Lewis into second and third places respectively.

He then anchored the 4x400 men’s relay team to a close second behind a strong Abilene team improving UTT’s record for this event to 3:09 secs.

Sade Andrews, fighting off an upset stomach placed third in the women’s 400m and lead the 4x400 women’s team to third place as well. Michaelene Williams was the next medalist with a third place in the 800 metres women.
