| THE University of Trinidad and Tobago dominated the opening day of the 19th Edition of the Courts All Sector Netball League at the Eastern Regional Sports Indoor Complex in Tacarigua last weekend |
| The girls in red, white and black uniform successfully defended their march past title with a splendid performance backed by the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service band and before a fair sized crowd. |
| And when the opening day Knockout (KO) competitions got going later in the afternoon, last Saturday, UTT prevailed as champions in two of the three categories contested. |
| They won the Championship Division KO final 12-9 over Fire in extra time, following one of the most exciting opening day finals ever contested. |
| The scores were level at 8-8 after a nail-biting ten minutes to the delight of the crowd. |
| In the four minutes of extra-time, UTT's youthfulness and speed proved to be the deciding factors down the stretch as they outscored their opponents 4-1 to seal the deal |
| In the Alternative X Division, UTT stopped Bermudez X 8-5 to win their second title of the day, before copping the Championship Division spoils. |
| Cavaliers pulled off a slight upset in the Alternative Y Division to score a 5-3 triumph over Bermudez Y. |
| Earlier in the day, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Gary Hunt, delivered a short address and then officially declared the 2009 season open. |
| In his short speech, the Minister showered kudos on the All Sectors League for their dedication to the sport over the past 19 years and asked for the continuation of what they have been doing. |
| Twenty-three teams will participate in this year's competition. Four clubs will do battle in the Championship Division, 13 in the Alternative and six in the Retro category. |
| The teams in the Alternative Division are: Fire Service (2), Police Service, Defence Force, Cavalier Investments Limited (Cavaliers), Cilnetres, Bermudez X, Bermudez Y and TSTT (Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago), newcomers CLICO Jabloteh, University of the Southern Caribbean (USC), University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and Prisons, who are returning after a few years' absence. |
| The Alternative Division will be subdivided into X and Y. |
| In the Championship Division, the teams are: Defence Force, Fire, Police, and University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT),while the Retro Division will have Fire, Les Enfants, TSTT, Defence Force, Police (two teams) and Harlem. |
