Having secured qualification to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the 2026 FISU America Football World Cup Qualifiers by virtue of winning the Tertiary Sport Association of Trinidad and Tobago's (TSATT) League Title, UTT Patriots Men Football team had one more title to secure - the TSATT Knockout Title.

In the knockout preliminaries, UTT Patriots defeated UWI Pelicans 4-2 via kicks from the penalty spot after both teams were deadlocked 1-1 after regulation time. USC Hummers had no such scare in their preliminary game however, as they defeated NESC by a score of 4-0.

This meant that the knockout final would see USC Hummers and the UTT Patriots vie for the title. UTT Patriots were clear favourites, playing unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, and having defeated USC Hummers by 4-2 and 4-0 margins when the two teams met during the league stage.

Playing on a heavy outfield due to persistent rains all day, UTT Patriots came out the stronger of the teams and commanded possession throughout the first half. Their tactically strong game would give them a half time lead of 3-0, with two goals from lanky midfielder Tyrone Rago in the 7th and 34th minutes, and one from prolific striker, Andre Alfred in the 41st minute.

Coach Clayton Morris was quietly confident but urged his troops to go for more; and that they did. Spurred on by their hundreds of supporters including fellow student-athletes, parents, community supporters, lecturers and senior management - who all braved the inclement weather - UTT's lads went for the jugular.

In the 47th minute, Alfred would get his second goal and the team's fourth with an emphatic blast in the 6-yard box which the opposition goalkeeper had no chance of reaching. Alfred would round off the scoring following a neat buildup which left him clear on goal, placing the ball out of the reach of goalkeeper Reynold Williams, notching yet another hattrick.

USC Hummers got a late consolation item in the 64th through their striker Kyle Wilson, but the writing was already on the wall. UTT Patriots - the better team - lifted the winner's knockout trophy with elation and pride.

UTT Patriots Men's Football team now joins the University's Patriots Women's Football team, and beach volleyball and track and field student-athletes on the journey to Lima, Peru, for the FISU America Football World Cup Qualifier, in July 2026.
