Dr. David Alexander, Associate Professor and Programme Leader of the Energy Systems Engineering (ESE) Unit, was honoured by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), with the Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty. 

This award, which was established in 1981, recognises superior teaching, excellence in research, significant contributions to the petroleum engineering profession, and/ or special effectiveness in advising and guiding students. In selecting Dr. Alexander, the SPE recognised his stellar contributions to petroleum engineering education in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, and his research in carbon capture utilisation and storage, where his collaboration with researchers locally and globally is outstanding. His work has been recognised by industry and the state, through the award of grants. 

Dr. Neal Alleyne, Assistant Professor with the ESE Unit, was also honoured by the SPE, with the Regional Public Service Award. 

This SPE Award recognises distinguished service to country, state, community, or public, with respect to local custom. It also considers the different cultural perceptions of public service, through excellence in leadership, service, or humanitarianism, provided the service is over and above requirements of employment. 

Dr. Alleyne’s selection recognised his dedication and service to the SPE throughout his fifty (50) years of membership, by serving on the board of the Trinidad and Tobago Section in many capacities, and serving members and society through programmes like the recent mentoring programme, which served to give students and recent graduates exposure to the industry. 

Both awards were for the Latin America and Caribbean region of the SPE.
