The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) continues to make its mark on the national sporting landscape as Micky Ruben, Massage Therapist, Sport and Recreation Unit, has been elected President of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Fencing and Para-Fencing (TTAFPF).

Mr Ruben's election to the presidency in August 2026, represents another significant achievement for a member of UTT community and further demonstrates the impact of the University's professionals in leadership, sport development and national service.

Already serving as President of the Trinidad and Tobago Paralympic Committee (TTPC), Mr Ruben now assumes responsibility for leading the national development of both Olympic fencing and Para-fencing. His appointment places particular emphasis on building sustainable structures for sport, strengthening governance, expanding opportunities for participation, and developing pathways for athletes, coaches and technical officials.

The inclusion of para-fencing within the Association's mandate also aligns closely with UTT's commitment to diversity, accessibility and inclusive development. Through the integration of Olympic and para sport within a unified national structure, the Association aims to create opportunities for persons with and without disabilities to participate, develop and represent Trinidad and Tobago.

Mr Ruben's growing involvement in national sport leadership also reflects the value of the knowledge, experience and professional development fostered within the University. His election demonstrates how members of staff continue to extend their influence beyond the classroom and workplace, contributing their expertise to institutions that serve Trinidad and Tobago.

Under his leadership, the Association will seek to strengthen the national fencing framework, expand participation across communities, support the development of clubs and athletes, and deepen Trinidad and Tobago's engagement with regional and international fencing.

This latest appointment builds upon UTT's already notable representation within the national paralympic movement and reinforces the University's contribution to the development of sport administrators and leaders capable of serving at the highest levels of national and international sport.
