Virginia Tech’s music professors Yevgeny Dokshansky, clarinet, and Hsiang Tu, piano, joined by John Irrera, violin, will premiere a newly composed Clarinet Sonata by Dr. Roger J. Henry, Associate Professor, The Academy of the performing Arts (APA), on Monday, March 22nd, 2021 at 7:30 p.m.
Listeners will be enveloped by the sweet sounds of Caribbean music which was composed entirely while Dr. Henry was on lockdown due to COVID-19. The five-movement composition, as he put it, is “a rollercoaster of emotions.” The rhythms, accents, and colours of the music of Trinidad and Tobago are further explored in Henry’s Trio No. 2 for clarinet, violin, and piano, featuring Virginia Tech's violin professor John Irrera, which rounds off this colourful and exciting program that is partially sponsored by the Departmental Diversity Grant from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences grant.
