Welcome to the Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre - Caribbean
The Capacity Building for Climate Mitigation in the Maritime Shipping Industry project is a joint IMO and European Union initiative aimed at reducing greenhouse gas and other emissions as well as promoting energy efficiency in the maritime shipping industry, and is funded by the European Union.
Under the Global MTCC Network (GMN) project, the five regional MTCCs, including MTCC Caribbean hosted by the University of Trinidad and Tobago, will work towards achieving project milestones over three years. This initiative aims to assist developing countries, notably Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, in implementing energy-efficiency measures in the maritime shipping industry through technical assistance and capacity building.
With a focus on assisting developing countries, particularly the Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, this project, formally titled "Capacity Building for Climate Change Mitigation in the Maritime Shipping Industry," aims to address the challenges they face in enhancing energy efficiency. By providing targeted technical assistance and capacity building initiatives, the project seeks to empower these nations to implement effective energy-efficiency measures. Through fostering technical cooperation and knowledge sharing, it endeavors to promote sustainable practices in maritime shipping, ultimately contributing to global efforts in combating climate change.

MTCC Caribbean is currently engaged in the execution of 2 projects, namely the TEST Biofouling and IMO CARES projects .
Test Biofouling: The “Accelerating Transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies through demonstration pilots to reduce biofouling and related emissions” (TEST Biofouling) Project seeks to aid developing countries in building their knowledge on the control and management of biofouling. This project will also demonstrate effective approaches to biofouling management and mitigation against the spread of Invasive Aquatic Species (IAS) through biofouling. IMO CARES: The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Coordinated Actions to Reduce Emissions from Shipping (IMO CARES) Project intends to assist Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LCDs) in identifying suitable market-ready technology solutions for the improvement of efficiency of selected vessels and ports, with an overall aim of reducing operational costs and GHG emissions.
