The TEST Biofouling project plays a vital role in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By focusing on reducing the transfer of Invasive Aquatic Species, it significantly contributes to SDG 14 - Life below water and its Target 14.2, which aims to sustainably manage marine and coastal ecosystems and avoid adverse impacts. Additionally, the project's efforts align with SDG 1, working towards eradicating extreme poverty by 2030 through securing ownership and control of economic and natural resources, as well as appropriate technologies and financial services. Moreover, it contributes to SDG 15 - Protecting terrestrial ecosystems, halting biodiversity loss, and Target 15.8, which emphasizes measures to prevent the introduction and minimize the impact of IAS on land and water ecosystems.

The TEST Biofouling project aims to collaborate closely with and leverage the achievements of the GloFouling Partnerships project, targeting specific beneficiary countries and areas where additional support will have the highest impact. It will focus on complementary topics and geographic areas to enhance the effectiveness of biofouling management technology demonstrations. The project's core will involve testing innovative, sustainable biofouling management methods through demonstrations, showcasing their environmental and energy efficiency benefits to developing countries. Additionally, the project aims to contribute positively to SDG13 - Urgent action to combat climate change and support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Its key components include capacity building, practical solution demonstrations, collaboration with related initiatives, and effective project management and governance.

The TEST Biofouling project aims to:

  • Collaborate with the GloFouling Partnerships project and leverage its achievements.
  • Showcase sustainable biofouling management methods through technology demonstrations.
  • Expand capacity building on IMO Biofouling Guidelines to selected regions.
  • Conduct additional technology showcases and exchanges of best practices globally.
  • Establish partnerships with relevant IMO and GloFouling initiatives.
  • Implement an efficient project management and governance system.
