The UTT Patriots Basketball team captured second place in the Slam 3x3 Basketball Fiesta held at UWI SPEC on Saturday 25th November, 2023. In this small-sided format of the game, three (3) representative teams were registered to participate in the one-day event.

The teams consisted of student-athletes Javon Charles, Vladimir Griffith, Kristian Alexander, Terique Young, Mikhail Phillips, Shakeem Morris, Jabharie Joseph, Elyon James, Ronell Caruth and Ato Samuel, and walk-on athletes Jevonte Colthrust and Jesaiah Edwards.

UTT-Blue, which comprised Mikhail Phillips, Shakeem Morris, Jabharie Joseph and Ato Samuel, completed the round-robin stage with a record of four wins and one loss. In the quarterfinals, they defeated the Musketeers 12-9 to move on to the semi-finals. Subsequently, a win over team Warriors (18-16) in the semi-finals, landed them a spot into the finals; however, they fell short of the tournament favourites, Team Elite.

Phillips led all UTT players in scoring, netting a total of sixty-six points across all games. Alexander, who scored a total of twenty-nine points, walked away with the “Most Promising Player” award for his stellar performance which helped UTT-Red reach the quarterfinal stage.

The other players who scored in double-figures were Griffith (20 points), Morris (17 points), James (15 points), Charles (13 points) and Edwards (10 points).
