At the last International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance (ICHPER.SD) World Congress, held in Japan in June 2008, the Board of Governors approved the establishment of the Caribbean as the eighth region of ICHPER.SD. Following meetings between ICHPER.SD President, Dr. Dong Ja Yang and UTT President, Professor Kenneth Julien, it has been agreed that the Academy of Sports and Leisure Studies at UTT would have the honour of hosting the ICHPER.SD Caribbean Secretariat. Additionally, it has also been agreed that the UTT will host the Inaugural ICHPER.SD Caribbean Regional Congress in Trinidad on May 27th-31st 2009. The Congress will cater for three hundred (300) delegates from the local, regional and international arena in the field of sport and physical education.
