The Role and Importance of Supply Chain Logistics Management to Table-egg Producers of Developing Countries - a Trinidad and Tobago Case Study

Globally, integrated logistics management plays a critical role in agri-food supply chains (AFSCs) however, for table-egg producers (TEPs) in developing countries including Trinidad and Tobago, supply chain logistics management (SCLM) is ineffective and inefficient than in the developed countries resulting in scarcity, spoilage, and high egg prices at the end of the table-egg supply chain (TESC).
This research sought to understand the role and importance of SCLM to TEPs in developing countries, especially Trinidad and Tobago, and to evaluate the SCLM efficiency and effectiveness of national TESC using a multiple embedded cases strategy for data collection and analysis.
Insights from the pattern matching and cross-case analysis of nine (9) cases confirmed the study’s overall proposition and provided analytical generalisation that the level of institutional support significantly influences SCLM efficiency (implementation) and effectiveness (customer satisfaction) - in the TESC.
One of the key innovations of this research was the development of a comprehensive conceptual framework that extends the traditional ‘seven rights’ of SCLM to a novel '10 rights' model (with the addition of right input supplier, information, and supply chain cost). This extension fills a critical gap in the literature and offers a more nuanced perspective on the factors influencing SCLM performance in developing country contexts. The study also proposed a comprehensive definition for TESC that is supported by supply chain experts.
The research proffered recommendations which can help TEPs improve their strategic planning, decision making, and communication, thereby enhancing table-egg quality and safety, while reducing supply chain costs.

Ms Giselle Lawrence is an effective and results-oriented Business Management Professional, with over 10 years’ experience in strategic planning, corporate governance, and in conducting qualitative research, and who also has over five years’ experience in Management Consultancy and Online Tutoring (MBA and BBA students).
Ms Lawrence has served on the Executive Boards of the Sangre Grande Chamber of Commerce (2020 to present) as an Education & Research Officer, and AllGreen Trinidad Limited (2015 - 2022) as a Research Officer, where she effectively directed and led research projects. Currently, Ms Lawrence serves as a Director and Chief Logistics & Supply Chain Officer at GL Farm & Cannabis Education & Research Company Ltd., where she leads, directs, and controls the company using integrative supply chain logistics practices.
In January 2022, Ms Lawrence represented the Sangre Grande business community in national information-gathering sessions such as, the Parliamentary Joint Select Committee investigating the impact of Covid-19 on MSMEs, and the CARIRI/IDB roundtable, “Shaping the future of innovation” discussions.
As a Business Management Consultant, Ms Lawrence is quite adept at researching, diagnosing, and analysing various organisational problems and providing results-oriented solutions for various clients locally, and within the wider Caribbean.
A former MBA Logistics and Supply Chain graduate of the Australian Institute of Business, Ms Lawrence is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Entrepreneurship and Commercial Studies at The University of Trinidad and Tobago.
