Some of us may recall UTT student Mr. Timothy Derry being selected in 2017 by The Tertiary Sport Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TSATT) to represent his country at the inaugural International University Sport Federation’s (FISU) World Volunteer Leadership Conference, in Russia. We may also recall Mr. Derry representing with distinction, placing first among the 110 participants from over 90 nations represented. Timothy has again been invited to Russia for the second hosting of this conference, this time as a mentor to the new participants.
UTT continues to shine among tertiary institutions as yet another UTT student, Mr. Mancini Mahadeo pursuing the Bachelor in Sports Studies at UTT, impressed the TSATT panel this year, thereby gaining selection to represent Trinidad and Tobago from June 11th – 24th, at this year’s edition of the conference. Mr. Mahadeo will be joined by the University of the West Indies (UWI) student Mr. Reynaldo Christie, who was also selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago. They will be given the opportunity to work alongside young leaders and ambassadors from over 95 other countries. This Volunteer Leadership Conference presents a unique platform for university students to network and be exposed to best practices in the delivery of major sporting events.
Mancini is no stranger to representing his country as he is currently a Senior National Beach Handball team member and is also coach of the National under-21 Handball Team. He also represented Trinidad and Tobago in the sport of martial arts, being crowned the Caribbean Kickboxing Grappling San Shou Federation (CKGSF) Welterweight Champion; a title he held from 2012 – 2015.
Asked about his feelings about representing Trinidad and Tobago at this prestigious FISU event Mancini had this to say: “This opportunity places me in a position to be an ambassador for The University of Trinidad and Tobago at this prestigious event where I would gain valuable knowledge and insights into FISU, Sports and Volunteerism. The knowledge gained would be of great benefit to our University as I intend to share and implement the information obtained to Sports and Volunteerism at UTT and by extension, Trinidad and Tobago.”
UTT takes this opportunity to wish current UTT student Mr. Mancini Mahadeo and our alumnus, Mr. Timothy Derry all the success at this conference. We know that both gentlemen will continue to be great ambassadors for UTT.
