Port-of-Spain, December 9, 2010 – In June 2010, INDUS Systems setup an IT Support Desk in Trinidad and Tobago in collaboration with the University of Trinidad and Tobago. The IT Support Desk provides back-end remote technical support to INDUS’ clients in North America via the internet. The company employs two UTT graduates locally. The staff was trained in Trinidad by Amer Mustafa, Senior Executive Vice President, INDUS Systems.

In early 2010 INDUS began to research a location to set up a Technical Operations Centre in the Caribbean/Latin American region. Contacts were made with several potential institutional partners in various countries. Trinidad and Tobago was chosen for various reasons key among which are: access to an educated and motivated workforce; English is the main language spoken; open and fair business climate; and, close proximity and easy travel to and from Canada. According to Mr. Mustapha, “we also found a willing and enthusiastic partner in the Digital Media Studies department at UTT”.

“The partnership with Indus represents a first step towards UTT’s goal to serve the community through our academic incubation initiatives. We are especially delighted to employ two of our own ICT BSc graduates for the project”, says Michael Smith, Vice President, Digital Media Studies and ICT Professor at the university.

UTT facilitated access to its graduates and after conducting several interviews INDUS selected the staff for the 6-month pilot project. The IT Support Desk is supervised by the faculty of UTT’s Digital Media Studies department. The pilot phase is a success and INDUS will expand the local operations in 2011. The expanded operations will hire more UTT graduates.
