Student ambassador, GIANLUC ROBINSON of UTT's Coast and Ocean Sciences programme has been selected to deliver an Oral Presentation based on his abstract submission at the Poster Session of the 71st Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute Conference being held at the San Andres Convention Center in Colombia. This follows Gianluc's presentation at the 148th Annual Meeting of the American Fisheries Society in Atlantic City, New Jersey in August 2018. 

 

Gianluc will be among over eighty (80) participants who will present at this year's Conference, which brings together experts, academics, policymakers, managers and relevant organisations interested in marine issues, natural resources, sustainable fisheries and tourism. This year's theme is set to explore "Tourism in the Caribbean: Challenges for the management of fisheries and coral reefs ecosystems." 

 

With a passion for Marine Sciences, Gianluc's research focused on analysing the mean length of sexual maturity for the Lane Snapper (Lutjanus synagris) in Trinidad for Proper Catch Size Limits and related implications.

 

 

 

 

To celebrate World Oceans Day on Thursday 8th June 2017, students enrolled in UTT’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Coast and Ocean Science programme, specifically, students pursuing the Marine Archaeology course, built boats out of recycled waste material (mainly plastic bottles), which was raced in William’s Bay, Chaguaramas.

The boats were constructed from a minimum of 80% recycled waste and students chose their designs based on information received from their course "Marine Archaeology" which provides data on different vessels and their functions. Six teams competed and the ultimate winner was “Gyal ah Rush Me” which was navigated by Gianluc Robinson.
