Visa and Immigration Requirements

ENTRY VISAS: To Enter Trinidad and Tobago

International Students who are not Residents of Trinidad and Tobago may require a Visa for Entry into Trinidad and Tobago. Before purchasing a ticket, please contact the Immigration Division of Trinidad and Tobago to determine if you require a Visa. An application for an Entry Visa must be submitted to a Trinidad and Tobago Mission Abroad, or where there is no Trinidad and Tobago Office, to a UK Embassy or Consulate in a non-Commonwealth country.

An application for an Entry Visa must be completed as instructed by the Immigration Division of Trinidad and Tobago.

International Students requiring Entry Visas are encouraged to submit applications as early as possible, as in some cases, the process can weeks or months, sometimes running into the start of the semester.

STUDENT PERMITS: To Engage in studies at The University of Trinidad and Tobago

International Students coming to UTT are required to apply for a Student Permit to legally engage in Study in Trinidad and Tobago. Please review the eligibility criteria below to verify that you are eligible to apply for a Student Permit:

  • Persons 18 years and over, coming for tertiary education, technical training, religious studies or English as a Second Language (ESL) or GCE/CXC o' Level/A' Level classes (CARICOM Citizens only) at private institutions
  • Dependents of persons who are holders of Work Permits, Missionary Permits, or awaiting Permanent Residence status in Trinidad and Tobago
  • Dependents of persons who are holders of CARICOM Skills Certificate issued in Trinidad and Tobago and who hold indefinite stay status
  • Dependents of persons permitted entry under Rights of Establishment.

As part of the Student Permit application process, enrolled, non-national students are required to upload an Immigration Enrolment Letter to the Student Permit portal. To request your Immigration Enrolment letter, send an email to internationaloffice@utt.edu.tt .

Students who do not adhere to this timeframe may be asked by the Immigration Division to exit and re-enter Trinidad and Tobago.
