JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
To contribute to the intellectual life of the Unit and the wider institution. To demonstrate excellence in the development and design of teaching, research and service at the Certificate and Diploma programme levels.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching
-
Participates in the compilation and development of curricula.
-
Develops necessary course materials, handouts, project assignments, practical exercises and assessments for subject area(s).

Instructs classes at the Certificate/Diploma programme levels, as required within the specified time frame.
-
Maintains conformity to curricula requirements and quality of delivery.
-
Provides necessary leadership for successful execution of the instructional process.
-
Administers, supervises, invigilates and grades course assessments as required.
-
Supervises students with respect to student projects and capstones.
-
Submits examination marksheets and all other documentation (course and audit binder, second marker form, etc.) in accordance with the requirements of the academic unit.
Research
-
Participates in academic research projects/programmes.
-
Participates in the training process of a new generation of researchers in area of expertise.
-
Develops and maintains relationships with other universities, research institutions and companies.
-
Participates in research conferences and seminars.
-
Submits reports about teaching activities, publications and research.
-
Submits grant applications to support the University's goals in consultation with the Programme Head or other Academic Staff and the University's office responsible for grant funding.

Engages in peer review activities as required.
Service
-
Participates in the Personal Tutor programme (or acts as a personal tutor where required).
-
Provides service to the University and/or community/society.
-
Coordinates Service-Learning placement/activities for the Unit's undergraduate students.
-
Engages in recruitment initiatives for the Centre for Kinesiology, Physical Education and Sport.
-
Performs any other duties within the general area of responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

A Master's degree qualification in the area of Sport, Kinesiology or a related field from an accredited and recognised University/Professional Institution with a minimum of two years' related teaching, research or industry experience.

OR
-
A Bachelor's degree in Education with specialisation in one of the following options: Physical Education; Health and Physical Education; Kinesiology; Human Performance; or a closely related field, with an emphasis in pedagogy from a recognised University, or another degree with a relevant combination of experience and training.

A minimum of five (5) years teaching, research or industry experience (at least two years teaching experience must be at an institution of higher learning).

Experience in the administration of university sport programmes/service-learning activities for undergraduate students.
-
Coaching qualifications and experience in any sport discipline will be considered an asset.
