Sandy Takes First Place in Men's Discus at FISU America Games

On Wednesday 13th November, 2024 UTT Patriots Athletics student-athlete, Umar Sandy, delivered an outstanding performance at the III FISU Americas Games, claiming first place in the Men's Discus Finals with a remarkable personal best throw of 54.11 meters. His achievement not only secured the gold medal but also solidified him as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s rising stars in track and field.


Sandy's throw outshone his competitors, with silver and bronze going to two (2) Chilean athletes, while fourth place was claimed by UTT teammate and fellow Trinidad and Tobago (TTO) representative Kenan Alexander. This impressive distance marked a significant milestone in Sandy's career. Throughout the competition, he demonstrated focus, precision and consistency, making it evident that he was determined to perform at his best despite being off season.


Since joining the UTT High-Performance programme, Sandy has repeatedly broken school records in discus. His latest victory is a steady upward trajectory in his career, this personal best serving as a testament to his potential to excel on an international stage in the near future.

The III FISU Americas Games, were held from November 5th - 15th, 2024, in Cali, Colombia, hosting over 1000 student-athletes from 17 countries.
