The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) recently participated in the intensive week-long Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Summer School hosted by the International Energy Agency Greenhouse Gas (IEAGHG) Research and Development Programme, and copped two notable awards. UTT was expertly represented by Dr Dillon Ramsook, Assistant Professor, Process Engineering programmes, and Kavita Gunness, Master of Science (M.Sc.) student, Energy Systems Engineering, at the event in Darwin, Australia.

Dr Ramsook and Ms Gunness were among forty-five participants from thirty countries, selected from over 250 global applicants, all eager to deepen their knowledge and collaborate on CCS technologies.

Dr Ramsook, who is also a UTT Master of Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy graduate, was recognised as one of two outstanding students, for his exemplary performance, leadership skills, and coordination among the teams throughout the event. As part of a team which focused on comparing Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) and Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS), Dr Ramsook also won the Best Group Award.

The insights gained will also help Dr Ramsook enhance the CCS curriculum at UTT, ensuring that the next generation of engineers is well-prepared to promote and apply CCS for Trinidad and Tobago’s sustainable, low carbon future.

The University congratulates Dr Ramsook and Ms Gunness on this achievement which reinforces the importance of CCS technologies in combating climate change, and highlights the significant role that UTT, and by extension Trinidad and Tobago, can play in this global effort.
