Congratulations are in order for three (3) UTT students who have successfully gained scholarships to study at Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning through the Canadian Government’s Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP). The ELAP is representative of the Canadian Government’s commitment to participation in international study and research partnerships that build understanding among peoples which develop global citizens and leaders who contribute to the development of nations. The ELAP scholarship is available to any Canadian institution with established ties to the Caribbean and Latin America. 

In September 2012, UTT signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sheridan. Through continued bilateral relations between Sheridan and UTT’s Business Development and Marketing Unit, headed by Vice President, Navneet Boodhai, the formalised agreement between the two (2) institutions served as the catalyst for negotiations with the Canadian Government which has resulted in the award of these three (3) ELAP scholarships.

UTT students, Christy-Ann Motee and Joyelle Williams, both currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Education programme with Specialisation in Early Childhood Care and Education and Arminda Bailey, of UTT’s Diploma in Animation Studies programme, will all pursue studies at Sheridan for the period September - December, 2013. As recipients of the ELAP scholarships, all three (3) will be given the opportunity to conduct research in their scholastic fields.

UTT congratulates Christy-Ann, Joyelle and Arminda on their academic achievements and wish them every success as they continue to be ambassadors of UTT. Stay tuned for regular updates of these three (3) scholars upon their return to Trinidad and Tobago and to their UTT programmes.
