UTT Signs MoU to Enhance Inclusion for Hearing Impaired Persons in Education

The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and the Trinidad and Tobago Association for the Hearing Impaired (TTAHI) formalised a new partnership today through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening access to education, and support services for learners with hearing disabilities in Trinidad and Tobago.

The partnership will focus on enhancing training and education for professionals working with students who have experienced hearing loss, expanding sign language interpretation services and exploring the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to improve accessibility in teaching and learning. 

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Professor Rean Maharaj, Acting President, UTT highlighted the importance of inclusion, collaboration and practical action in creating more accessible and responsive learning environments. He noted that the initiative aligns with UTT's national mandate to deliver accessible, relevant and impactful education while supporting broader global goals related to quality education and reduced inequalities.

This MOU underscores the shared commitment between UTT and TTAHI, as both organisations advance toward inclusive education, ensuring hearing impaired learners are empowered with greater opportunities for personal and academic success.
