New Alliance with IKAROS Positions Graduates for International Careers.

The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IKAROS Aviation Training Center (IKAROS), a Cyprus-based aviation training organisation, to strengthen collaboration in aviation education, research, training and workforce development.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in areas including business development, community engagement and cultural initiatives. Through this partnership, UTT and IKAROS aim to expand research, specialise aviation training opportunities, enhance graduate employment prospects and support the development of a skilled aviation workforce.

Professor Chris Maharaj, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors, UTT, described the agreement as "a meaningful step forward in strengthening international collaboration in aviation education and training, while preparing the next generation of aviation professionals."

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Professor Rean Maharaj, Acting President, UTT stated that the MoU represents a strategic and actionable partnership, that will enhance the regional recognition and mobility of UTT’s aviation programme graduates. He added that the agreement demonstrates how The University of Trinidad and Tobago will "translate vision into tangible outcomes that benefit students, staff, and the wider aviation sector".

IKAROS currently operates in twenty countries, and this MoU represents the organisation’s first partnership with an academic institution. Mr George Poumos, Chief Executive Officer and Accountable Manager, IKAROS, welcomed the agreement, noting the global shortage of aircraft technicians projected by 2033. He explained that this partnership provides an opportunity to help address the aviation industry’s growing demand for skilled professionals, while strengthening the local market through the delivery of world-class education and training.

UTT commends those who were instrumental in establishing this partnership, reflecting the University’s commitment to building strategic international collaborations. Through initiatives such as these, UTT continues to enhance learning opportunities for its students, while supporting the development of key sectors critical to national and regional growth.
