The NETD in Renewable Energy Engineering Technology (REET) diploma programme is the first practical technician level programme focused on Renewable Energy in CARICOM.

The programme is designed to produce practical, industry ready and globally competitive Renewable Energy Engineering Technicians who will directly contribute towards the sustainable development and use of the indigenous renewable sources of energy in Trinidad and Tobago, and CARICOM. It makes use of state-of-the-art equipment and technology; industry-based software; and local, regional and international standards and best practice to develop the technical competencies of learners in the programme.

The interdisciplinary nature of the programme and the many project and team-based assessments inculcates and develops the emotional intelligence of students in the programme.

Another core area of study in the NETD in REET programme is entrepreneurship. The programme fosters and develops entrepreneurship by producing graduates who are industry ready and by exposing students to entrepreneurship fundamentals and practices.

The NETD in REET Programme is offered on a full-time and part-time basis. The programme requires 82 credits for graduation and includes an Internship period.

The NETD in Renewable Energy Engineering Technology programme is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer.

Full-Time: Two (2) years

Part-Time: Three and a half (3½) years

Special Level 2 Entry for Renewable Energy Engineering Technology

Graduates of NETD Electrical / Electronics, Instrumentation and Mechanical Engineering can enter the Renewable Energy Engineering programme at Level 2 and complete the programme in One (1) year Full-time, Two (2) years Part-time and One and a half (1 ½) Years Accelerated Part-time

• Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC (CXC O’Level) General Proficiency in Grades I or II and from 1998, Grade III or equivalent GCE O’Level including Grades A, B or C in Mathematics, English Language, Physics or Industrial Technology Option A or Electrical and Electronic Technology OR
• Completion of UTT’s Pre-University Programme (PUP) or Certificate in Applied Engineering programme with a minimum of 50% in ALL attempted subject areas; OR
• Other equivalent qualifications may also be considered

Mature Student Entry:

An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic qualifications for admission to the program, may be considered for acceptance as a mature student, based on relevant and significant industrial experience. The applicant would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualifications and will be assessed by the Program Leader and a designated team comprising of members from the program.  The aim of the assessment is to ensure that the potential candidate possesses a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to participate successfully in the programme.
