Dr. REIA GUPPY
Dr. Guppy joined the UTT family in July 2009 to jointly build a Marine Sciences Unit and to develop teaching and research in areas including but not restricted to marine environmental health and disease.
She has over ten (10)years experience of teaching in tertiary education, including co-supervision of six (6) Ph.D., thirteen (13) M.Sc. and twelve (12) B.Sc. students. Dr. Guppy has attained over fifteen (15) years of research experience in various levels of coral reef ecology, ranging from cell and molecular biology to ecological community dynamics and small island coastal management.
Her research includes environmental impact assessments and management plans of near-shore marine areas; long-term monitoring as part of the Caribbean Coastal Marine Productivity (CARICOMP) programme looking at growth, productivity and health of reefs, mangroves and seagrass beds; examination/monitoring of reef health and coral diseases of coral reefs; invasive pollution and population studies of commercially important marine species in Trinidad.
