A symposium to determine avenues for enhancing co-operation and co-ordination of Ocean Governance within the Caribbean
RATIONALE
Effective management of the living resources of the oceans is predicated on integrated management strategies, uniformly implemented across maritime zones and areas beyond national jurisdictions. Disparities in the legal and regulatory frameworks and challenges in enforcement of marine and maritime law by the countries that constitute the wider Caribbean area, are the core challenges to effective regional ocean governance. The Symposium will explore avenues for enhancing cooperation and coordination within the Caribbean. It follows a two-day workshop on Maritime Governance with regulators and professionals from across the Caribbean, sponsored by the Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre - Caribbean (MTCC-Caribbean). The MTCC-Caribbean is hosted by UTT and is the first of five (5) such facilities established globally by the European Union (EU) and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
